About Picalily
This is what Oprah Winfrey once said, and it had a lasting impact on us:
I urge you to pursue preserving your personal history to allow your children and grandchildren to know who you were as a child and to know what your hopes and dreams were
We all know that life is special. So it is worth capturing who we are forever. We are special, our lives have meaning and we will have a lasting impact on the people who matter to us. Picalily is the place to instantly create a personalized Lifestory where our stories can be linked to those of family and friends. It is the most interactive way to not just create a family tree, but to base it on our real stories using words, images and sound. You can even start creating your children's story. They will be very grateful once they grow older.
With this innovative, interactive service, users can now easily:
- Share their favorite memories and stories
- Upload or scan special photos
- Invite others to contribute photos and memories
- Create personalized video clips
- Share experiences through personal blogs
- Get in touch with others who have been touched by similar life experiences via user-created groups
- Communicate with other users through the site to exchange those golden memories
- Reconnect with long lost friends
The company is the first to use emo-social media, the combination of rich media combined with relevant content, to provide an outlet for emotional expression and historical preservation. With emo-social media, Picalily has created a dedicated venue for sharing emotions and memories online, unlike all-purpose social networking sites like MySpace or Facebook, that are not meant to talk about what life means to you.
Picalily is a Respectance brand, a company founded by Richard Derks and Todd Wilkinson. Respectance received Series-A funding from by Solid Ventures and Big Bang Ventures. With the official launch of Respectance in July of 2007, Respectance was the world's first social media approach to sharing memories. Says co-founder Derks: "Respectance is establishing a new tradition for sharing memories of loved ones. Finally, there is an appropriate outlet for sharing emotions and memories of loved ones for all to appreciate, enjoy and contribute to." Picalily is the logical follow up of the original memorial service. It was conceptualized after a lot of the Respectance members asked for a way to start registering their own lives. We are confident we met their wishes.
Respectance has offices in San Francisco, USA, Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Krakow, Poland.
